MOJANKUNYANE GUMBI

Mojankunyane Gumbi is the founder of Mojanku Gumbi Advisory Services, a Johannesburg-based business advisory firm.

She was a Special Advisor to South African President Thabo Mbeki from 1999 to 2008. From 1994 to 1999, she was an Advisor to then Deputy President Mbeki in the Mandela administration. During this time, she spearheaded South Africa’s economic diplomacy, ensuring a global presence for South African companies. She was involved in peace-making initiatives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Comoros, Sudan, Lesotho, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Iran and the Middle East.

Also during the administration, Ms. Gumbi advised on domestic policy issues including the reform of the local healthcare industry, the expansion of South African industry to the rest of Africa and the world, banking and mining sector reforms.

Ms. Gumbi was one of South Africa’s principal negotiators at the Seattle and Doha rounds of the World Trade Organization, and served as President Mbeki’s personal representative to the G8, where she played a leading role in the establishment of the G5 Group (Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa). She served also as President Mbeki’s personal representative in the Progressive Governance Network.

Ms Gumbi continues to advise on a number of African issues.

Prior to serving in the Presidency, Ms. Gumbi was an Attorney from 1984 and an Advocate from 1993. In these capacities, she defended political activists from all political organizations in South Africa. She acted as the Head of the Adjudication Secretariat of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) during South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994, bearing the ultimate responsibility within the IEC for the resolution of all disputes arising out of those elections.

Ms. Gumbi holds Law degrees from the South African Universities of the North (now University of Limpopo), and Witwatersrand, and a certificate in Trial Advocacy from the University of Texas in Austin. She serves and has served on the boards of many companies, trusts and philanthropic associations including the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, the Open Society Foundation, African Bank, LexisNexis, PPC, the Southern African Political and Economic Trust (SAPES), the Black Lawyers Association and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation.

She served as a member of Council of the then Technicon Witwatersrand, which is part of the University of Johannesburg, and the Council of the then University of the North, under the leadership of President Nelson Mandela as Chancellor and Minister Kader Asmal as Chairperson of Council. She served as the Ombud of the University of Johannesburg.

She was born in 1958 and has two adult children.

 

TANIA SLABBERT

Tania is one of the founders of WDBIH, was executive Director and CEO of WDBIH for over 12 years and is currently a non-executive Director on the Investment and Audit & Risk committees…

Tania holds a BA and MBA. She is a qualified ILS Professional Coach, and a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), SAVCA as well as the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

She presently also serves as a Trustee on the Energy Mobility Education Trust and as a non-executive director on the Board of Caxton. Over the past twenty years she has served on various listed and unlisted boards including Bidvest (Chair of the Social and Ethics Committee and member of the Nominations Committee); Discovery (member of the Social and Ethics and Remuneration Committees), Business Woman’s Association, National Small Business Development Council, BP Southern Africa , Women in Oil and Energy South Africa (WOESA), WDB Growth Fund (Chair) and Paracon (member of the Transformation Committee) .

JOY-MARIE LAWRENCE

Joy-Marie is a Non-Executive Director and Chairperson of the Investment Committee of WDBIH as well as a Director on the Audit & Risk committee…

She was the Commercial Legal Adviser to the MTN Group for both the local and African operations and spent time in Nigeria assisting with the establishment of MTN Nigeria’s start-up operations. Thereafter she worked at the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation) as Senior Legal Adviser providing regulatory and commercial legal advice pertaining to Broadcasting, Telecommunications, IT and Company Law. In 2005 she joined Business Connexion, a JSE-listed ICT company and is currently the Regional Executive for the Western Cape of EOH. Her other directorships include, Chairperson of the SA National Space Agency and trustee of the Legal Resources Trust. She is a qualified lawyer and has an Executive MBA (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town Business School, a Masters in Law from the University of Witwatersrand as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree and an LLB from the University of Cape Town.

 

NEO MOKHESI 

Neo is self-employed and was previously an Executive at the Industrial Development Corporation of SA. Neo is the Chairperson of the WDBIH

She has over 25 years working experience in marketing, strategy and socio-economic development initiatives in FMCG, development finance and publishing companies. She has served as a Non-Executive Director of boards and is currently on the boards of Scaw Metals Group South Africa and Clover Industries Limited, and is a trustee of the Wilderness Foundation. She holds a B.Com and Advanced Management Program certificates from WITS and INSEAD (France).

Thabile is the Non-Executive Director and Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Committee of WDBIH as well as a Director on the Remuneration and Social & Ethics Committees. She is currently a General Manager overseeing Risk Management at the Road Accident Fund. Before joining RAF she was an Associate Director at Deloitte assisting organisation to become Risk Intelligent. Thabile is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds directorships in few organisations.

DR. LUZ HELENA HANAUER

Luz Helena is the Executive Director of the WDB Trust and she also serves on the board of WDB Investment Holdings as a Non-Executive Director.

Dr. Luz Helena Hanauer holds a Ph.D. in International Economic Law from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, an LLM in International Business Law from the University of Liverpool in the UK, and an LLB in Law from the Universidad Externado de Colombia. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the WDB Trust, a Public Benefit Organization which enables platforms for microfinance, training, social development and advocacy for rural women living in poverty.

ANGELIQUE VISSER 

Angelique Visser is a Non-Executive Director of WDBIH and a Trustee of the WDB Trust. She is currently the Director of Baraza Wealth and National Councillor for the Fiduciary Institute of Southern Africa “FISA” where she addresses fiduciary matters on industry level with stakeholders such as the Masters Offices and South African Revenue Services “SARS”.

Angelique has 25 years’ experience in varied fields – from heading up deceased estates, high-net worth and charitable trusts, sales, product development, governance and acting as media spokesperson at two of the major banks’ fiduciary companies. 

Angelique has a Masters degree in law and also obtained a post graduate diploma in financial planning. She run Baraza Wealth, an independent boutique financial and fiduciary services company, a company where clients and professionals put heads together to find solutions for their unique and sometimes very complex situations.

BUSI MASHIANE

Busisiwe is a member of the Remuneration and Social & Ethics Committee of WDBIH and a Group Executive for Human Resources for African Rainbow Minerals (ARM)…

Her strategic achievements include driving transformation and related interventions in talent management with specific reference to young talent, women development and leadership development. Busi serves on a number of committees within the mining industry and other industries, including the United Nations focus group on ‘issues of gender in extractive industries, Skills Development Working Group at BRICS level, World Economic Forum: Skills for Africa, she is also a Director for ARM Mining Consortium. She holds a Labour Relations Certificate, a B. Administration Degree in Industrial Psychology, and Honours Degree in Industrial Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Business Leadership with Change Management Elective.

MALANDE TONJENI

Malande Tonjeni is a qualified Chartered Accountant, Certified Director and Professional Retirement Fund Trustee. She currently works as an independent director on private and public entities, as well as an independent trustee on pension funds and employee share trusts.

She is a seasoned finance executive with working experience in Mining, Energy, Manufacturing and Financial Services. She was previously Group CEO at Makole Group, Financial Director at Conco and General Manager Finance & ICT at Foskor. Before that she was a Senior Audit Manager in the Financial Services Banking division, and Segment Head for BEE Services at KPMG.

Mrs Mbeki is the Founder and Chairperson of WDB. She is also a Trustee/Director of several national and international Boards which promote social and economic development in poor communities: namely WEF’s Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship (Geneva); El Taller for Human Rights (Tunis, India); Localvoice4Development (Netherlands). She is a retired Chancellor of the CIDA City Campus University (South Africa). She is also Patron and life-member of the IWFSA and Fonder and Patron of SAWID. She studied Social Work in South Africa (Wits University) and postgraduate studies in the UK (London School of Economics and The Institute for Social Work Training) and the USA (Brandeis University).

FAITH KHANYILE

Faith is the CEO and Director of WDBIH. Faith has been associated with WDBIH for over 20 years, as one of its founding members and a Non-Executive Director.

Faith has extensive experience in financial services, corporate and investment banking, strategy development and leadership. She spent 12 years in Senior and Executive positions with Standard Bank, Corporate & Investment Bank (“CIB”) from 2001 to 2013 her last position being Head of Corporate Banking. Faith serves on the Board of Discovery Limited, Safari RSA Limited, Transcend Residential and Seed Engine. Prior to joining Standard Bank, she was with Brait Private Equity for 5 years.   Faith completed her BA Economics degree with Honours at Wheaton College and MBA (Finance) from Bentley Graduate School of Business. She also completed an HDIP Tax from the University of Johannesburg in 2005 and participated at Columbia University (New York) Executive Leadership Programme in the latter part of 2007. Faith is a member of the IWF (SA) and was a finalist at the Standard Bank Top Women Awards 2016. She is also a recipient of the 2017 Business Woman of the Year Award (Corporate Category) from the Business Women Association of South Africa (BWASA).

ROSE MAMABOLO

Rose is the Chief Financial Officer and Director of WDBIH, responsible for overall financial and risk management of the Group.

She is also involved in transaction execution and investment monitoring. Prior to this role, she was a Business Manager where she was responsible for the finance team and management of the company’s compliance with tax, regulatory, financial reporting requirements as well as for the company’s marketing, public relations and social investments. Prior to joining WDBIH, she was with Momentum Investments as Head: Management Reporting where she was responsible for group statutory and management reporting requirements. Rose spent 4 years at Regiments Capital where she was instrumental in the development of the finance division. Rose is a qualified CA (SA). She has a N.Dip Cost Accounting (cum laude) from Vaal University of Technology and a B.Com (Honours) in Accounting from University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Nicola joined WDBIH in April 2005 as the team’s Investment Executive. In 2012 Nicola became the Chief Investment Officer at WDBIH. Since joining, she has project managed several key transactions such as the Bidvest/Dinatla refinancing, the FirstRand Empowerment Trust refinancing and lock-in extension in November 2014, the Assupol BEE transaction, the WDBIH capital raisings in 2013 and 2017. Nicola is responsible for lead generation, capital raising and allocation, cash generation and ongoing portfolio maintenance and investment partner relationships. Prior to joining WDBIH, Nicola was a corporate finance executive at African Harvest Capital (now Vunani Capital) where she lead several BEEE transactions and was part of the Joint Global Co-Ordinator team involved in the Telkom IPO. Prior to that Nicola worked at HSBC in the Equity Capital Markets division where she raised capital for companies listing on the JSE and advised on post listing investor relations and capital raisings. Her directorships include Wesbank Advisory Board (a division of FirstRand Bank Limited), Assupol Holdings Limited, Assupol Life Limited, Algoa FM and WDB Junior Mining (Pty) Limited. Nicola has a B.Com from the University of Witwatersrand, H. NTSHEDISENG SIBEKO

Ntshediseng joined WDBIH as an Investment Manager in September 2019. Prior to joining WDBIH, Ntshediseng worked as an Associate at Sanlam Private Equity where she was responsible for the origination, evaluation and implementation of prospective investments

She represented Sanlam Private Equity on the boards of five companies. Prior to that, she worked as a Senior Investment Associate at the National Empowerment Fund as a transactor in the SME fund. Ntshediseng holds a BCom in Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
